Along with many people here, I was sad to see the demise, late in
2003, of the Shemailer service, (and before it the Market Eye
service), which allowed for the automatic downloading of share prices.
(I thought the Market Eye service better since it allowed
retrospective downloading of share prices.)
I've just found, and started to use, a new service which some of you
may be interested in. It's similar to Shemailer, whereby you can set
up a portfolio of shares and opt to receive an automated daily /
weekly email of the prices.
It's not quite as flexible as Shemailer in that it will only send an
email as an html page of the share prices, rather than as a simple
plaintext file. However I've just written some Excel VBA code, to
translate the html page into data that my Excel Share portfolio
tracking workbook can use, and upload automatically. I'm currently
testing this out over the next couple of weeks, but if anyone would
like a copy of the code when I've finished the testing, then please
let me know.
The site is:
http://www.digitallook.com/
Registration is pretty straightforward - and the service is free, at
least for the moment.
IMO the portfolio bit of the site is alos more user friendly than the
Interactive Investor site, which seems to be something of a standard
for these things.
